INLS HQ Washington DC celebrates 196th Bhanu Jayantee


The International Nepali Literary Society Head Quarters organized 196th Bhanu Jayantee with a grand manner. The manner this celebration was organized and the celebration was participated clearly indicate the growing love for the mother-tongue, Nepali. The credit must go to the INLS for its continuous efforts making national official language, ‘Nepali’ developed and spread in all continents of the world where Nepalese reside. The Bhanu Jayantee celebration’s grand success also goes to the organizers in persons. Ms. Kamala Prasai, the INLS HQ’s Treasurer and the Coordinator of the 196th Bhanu Jayantee made very sincere efforts to make the celebration successful. She was encouraged in her efforts by the prominent writer Mr. Hom Nath Subedi, referred as the Bhanu Bhakta in Diaspora who chaired the celebration.

Bhanu Jayantee coined after the Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, the first poet in Nepali language is the one who made the Nepali language so popular after he translated the very famous Hindu epic ‘Ramayana’ from Sanskrit to Nepali. Since then, the tradition of teaching and writing Sanskrit has been changed and the pride of the Nepali language began rising. Now, it is the lingua franca of Nepal. It is considered the most scientific and sweet language of the world. It is therefore, the prominent figures during the celebration have raised the issue against the intentions of attacking on Nepali language. Mr. Hom Nath Subedi, Dr. Shyam Karki, Ms. Kamala Prasai and the Chief Guest Mr. Kali Prasad Pokhrel, the Acting Envoy at the Nepal Embassy, USA, strongly objected the idea that undermines the language of the people of Nepali origin. They said in one voice that paying tribute to Bhanu Bhakta Acharya every year should also mean that it is an effort to protect and promote the Nepali language and to this end, the efforts of INLS must be applauded.

One of the very important parts of the celebration was poetry competition for both adults and children. Mrs. Jayanta Devi Prasai poetry competition for adults was sponsored by Ms. Kamala Prasai and Mr. Chetan Sitaula sponsored the renowned Astrologer Trilochan Sitaula children’s poetry competition. The Judges of the poetry competitions, Mr. HB Bhandari, Mrs. Ganga Ligal, Mr. Narayan Adhikari, Mr. Ram Prasad Khanal, Mr. Sharad Nirola, Mr. Tirtha Pandey scored the Astrologer Trilochan Sitaula children’s poetry competition winners as Mr. Bhandari (First- I am Handsome), Mr. Ashish Sitaula (Second), Mr. Anmol Sitaula (Third), Ms. Priya Subedi (Consolation). All these children received prizes and the certificates. Ms. Kabita, Ms. Sapana and Mr. Vikalpa Satyal also recited beautiful poems. Mrs. Jayanta Devi Prasai poetry competition was concluded with the poets reading their very touchy and beautiful poems. The winners of the competition were Ms. Kamala Kharel (First), Mr. Manish Bastakoti (Second), Ms. Shristi Humagain (Third) and Mr. Kishore Dhungana (Consolation). Among adult competitor and non-competitor poets and poetesses, Mr. Madhav Prasad Regmi, Mrs. Maiya Dhakal, Mr. Raj Kumar Khadka, Journalist Ritu Ashik, Mrs. Bhagwati Neupane, Mrs. Ganga Ligal, Mr. Sharad Nirola, Mr. Puru Subedi, Mr. Narayan Adhikari, Mr. Chetan Sitaula, the national award winner Mr. Madan Kumar, Mr. Ram Sharan Humagain, Mr. Kamal Bhusal and Mrs. Durga Sitaula recited their poems.

During the Bhanu Jayantee many prominent figures among Nepalese were honored for their special contributions made in their respective fields. Among them, Mrs. Gita Khatri was honored as the Best President among the INLS chapters. Mrs. Khatri successfully led the INLS New York chapters for more than four years. Mr. Ramhari Subedi of DC Nepal.com was also honored for his contributions in the field of web media. DC Nepal.com had a live cast of Bhanu Jayantee celebrations and viewed by the Nepalese living in the different parts of the world. Mr. Govinda Giri Prerana, Mrs. Ganga Ligal, Dr. Shyam Karki, Mr. Bhim Regmi, Mr. HB Bhandari Prabhat, Mr. Nagendra Neupane, and Mr. Ram Prasad Khanal were honored for their role in the promotion of Nepali language, arts, culture and literature. Mrs. Nanda Devi Subedi was also honored for her encouragement and continued support towards the cause of the Nepali language and literature. All of them were honored for their outstanding contributions for the year 2008.

The Bhanu Jayantee which continued throughout the day was diligently moderated by Mr. Bhim Regmi. The celebration inaugurated by Acting Nepalese Envoy, Mr. Kali Prasad Pokhrel was followed by the beautiful song, ‘Maiti Ghar (House of the parents)’ with a melodious voice of Ms. Pabita Pariyar. The celebration was attended by many prominent Nepali figures presently residing the different parts of the United States. Mrs. Bharati Gautam, INLS HQ Vice President, Mr. Sharad Nirola, Mr. Chetan Sitaula, Mr. Puru Subedi, Mr. Ram Khatri, Mr. Kabindra Sitaula, Mr. Madan Kumar, Mrs. Manju Nirola, and the diplomats at Nepal Embassy also enjoyed the celebrations with enthusiasm. Mr. John, Chief of the venue management welcomed appreciation provided him by the INLS and asked children as well as nature lovers to come to the surroundings to experience the beauties of the nature adjacent to the venues whenever they wish. During the celebration Dr. Shyam Karki, who has been playing the role of INLS Ambassador announced the winners of the INLS Book Awards, given every alternative year to the writers in different categories including the best book award. Mr. Hom Nath Subedi’s two books and INLS book, ‘Insight’ have also been released.

The Bhanu Jayantee included Bhanubhakta memorial volleyball competition. Mr. Khem Bhattachan, the sports coordinator, the winners, the runner-up and the best volleyball player received the certificates.

The Bhanu Jayantee which was marked to celebrate 196th birth anniversary of the first Nepali Poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya with the aim to highlight the importance of Nepali language and literature had a profound message for those who are trying to undermine Nepali language in the land of its origin। This was the message imparted by the prominent speakers, Mr. Hom Nath Subedi, Dr. Shyam Karki, Mrs. Gita Khatri, Govinda Giri Prerana, the Chief Guest, Acting Envoy Mr. Pokhrel and by Ms. Kamala Prasai, who made the 196th Bhanu Jayantee remarkable and memorable.

बालबच्चाको गर्मी छुट्टी अनि आफूहरुको पनि हप्ताभरिको थकानलाई रमाइलोमा भुलाउने रहर । यसै रहर अनि नयाँ,पुराना साथीहरुलाई भेट्ने सामुहिक थलो अर्थात् बनभोजको रमाइलो । यस्तै रमाइलो अवसर बन्यो यहाँ बाल्टिमोर एशोसियसन अफ नेपलिज इन अमेरिका बानाले आइतबार आयोजना गरेको वनभोज कार्यक्रम । बानाले हरेक वर्षयसरी आफ्ना सदस्य र शुभेच्छुकहरुलाई सहभागी गराएर रमाइलो बनभोज गर्दै आईरहेको छ । हरेक वर्षहुने यस्तो वनभोजमा नेपालीहरुको सहभागितामा पनि वृद्धि हुँदै गईरहेको छ । यस वर्षो वनभोजमा करीब तीन सय नेपालीहरुको सहभागिता रहेको थियो । वनभोज आयोजक संस्था बानाका पदाधिकारीहरु सबै उत्साहित देखिन्थे । अध्यक्ष रबिना थापा सहभागीहरुलाई स्वागत गर्न व्यस्त थिईन् भने उपाध्यक्ष राम्रप्रकाश भण्डारी खानपिनको प्रवन्ध गर्दै कार्यकारी सदस्य उपला उपाध्यायलाई साथै लिएर खेलकुदका कार्यक्रमका लागि दौडधुप गरिरहेका देखिन्थे । यस्तै महासचिव गौतम दाहाल सहभागीहरुलाई स्वागत र कार्यक्रम बारे जानकारी दिन कहिले माइकमा बोलिरहेका देखिन्थे त कहिले खानपीनको स्टलतिर केही कमी पो छ कि भन्दै यताउता गर्दै थिए । एकैछिनमा खेल स्थलमा पुग्ने उनी वनभोजकै बीचमा डि.सी. क्षेत्रबाट प्रसारण भईरहेको रेडियो दोभानको कार्यक्रममा वनभोज सम्बन्धि जानकारी दिन प्रत्यक्ष प्रसारण पनि भ्याईरहेका थिए ।
संस्थाका सचिव सञ्जय घिमिरे सहभागीहरुको नाम र विवरण दर्ताका लागि व्यस्त थिए भने कोषाध्यक्ष राजन केसी कुनै सामानको अभाव भयो कि अर्थात् केही गर्न छुटेको पो छ कि भन्दै खटिरहेका थिए । छेवमै रहेको बार्र्बिक्यु चिकन बनाउन सहयोग गरिरहेका बहादुर पुनः सहभागीहरुलाई स्वादिष्ट चिकन खुवाउन त्यो गर्मीको धुपमा पनि कुनै परवाह नगरी जुटिरहेका थिए । यता पदाधिकारीहरु चेतन पौड्याल र श्रीजन ताम्राकार फोटो खिच्न व्यस्त थिए भने कार्यकारी सदस्यहरु अन्सुया वन्त खानपीन र विनोद उप्रेती राफल चिठ्ठा बेच्न सहभागीहरुका माझ पुगिरहेका थिए ।
स्थानीय गनपाउडर स्टेट पार्कमा सम्पन्न वनभोजमा सहभागीहरुबीच पुरुष र महिला भलिबल प्रतियोगिता,बालबच्चाको चकलेट टिप्ने खेल,ठेलो हान्ने खेल र महिला तथा पुरुषहरुको सहभागितामा डोरी तान्ने खेल जस्ता मनोरन्जनात्मक खेल पनि आयोजना गरिएको थियो । यसैगरी राफल चिठ्ठा समेत सञ्चालन गरिएको थियो । सबै प्रतियोगितामा विजयी टीम तथा खेलाडीहरुलाई बानाका अध्यक्ष रबिना थापाले पुरस्कार तथा प्रमाणपत्र प्रदान गर्नुभएको थियो । यसैगरी बानाले आयोजना गरेका कार्यक्रमहरुमा स्वयंसेवकको रुपमा सहयोग गर्नेहरुलाई पनि अध्यक्ष थापाले प्रशंसापत्र वितरण गर्नुभएको थियो । वनभोजमा सहभागी हुनेहरु आफैंले खानाका विभिन्न परिकारहरु बनाएर वनभोजमा लिएर आएका थिए । यसरी सबैले बनाएर ल्याएका खानाका परिकारहरु एकै ठाउँ भेला भएर रमाइलो वातावरणमा खानपीन गर्न पाउँदा सहभागीहरु निकै खुशी देखिएका थिए । नेपाली खानाका विभिन्न परिकार,नेपालीपनको झझल्को यस्तो रमाइलोमा भुलेकाहरु कहिले डिजेडीले प्रस्तुत गरेको गीत संगीतमा मस्त देखिन्थे त कहिले साथीभाईसँगको भेटघाटमा दुःखसुख साटासाट गर्दै गरेका । यस्तै रमाइलोमा सहभागी हुन आइपुगेका थिए सदावहार वरिष्ठ गायक दीप श्रेष्ठ अनि एशोसियसन अफ नेपलिज इन अमेरिका एएनएका नवनिर्वाचित अध्यक्ष,जो बानाका आजीवन सदस्य पनि हुन् सिमोन ढुंगाना । उहाँहरु दुवैलाई खादा पहिर्याएर बाल्टिमोरको नेपाली आँगनमा स्वागत गरेकी थिइन् बाना अध्यक्ष रबिना थापाले । दिनभरिको रमाइलो माहौलको अन्त्यमा खानाका विभिन्न परिकार लिएर वनभोजमा सहभागी सबैलाई धन्यवाद दिंदै अध्यक्ष थापाले बानाका आगामी गतिविधिहरुमा पनि आफ्ना सदस्य र शुभेच्छुकहरुबाट यस्तै सहयोग र सक्रियताको अपेक्षा गरेको भनाई व्यक्त गरेकी थिइन् । सोही अवसरमा अमेरिकाका लागि नेपाली दूतावासका प्रथम सचिव हरिश्चन्द्र घिमिरे, एएनएका अध्यक्ष सिमोन ढुंगाना,एएनएसएका अध्यक्ष विष्णु थापा,म्याग्दी समाजका अध्यक्ष पारसमणी श्रेष्ठ,बानाका पर्ूव अध्यक्ष मोहन थापा सहितले रमाइलो, व्यवस्थित,भव्य र सफल वनभोजको आयोजना गरेको भन्दै बानाका आगामी कार्यहरु अझ प्रभावकारी हुन सकोस् भन्दै शुभेच्छा व्यक्त गर्नुभएको थियो ।
